About the Artist known as “CHILD”
Part 3: South Florida
The Move to Florida
Two decades later I moved to Florida as things had changed. I stepped away from graffiti and started a graphic design business in New York that carried over to Florida. The only graffiti I was doing was in black books and canvases. To be truthful, I fell out of the loop, just doing my own thing and designing for clients. That was until one day in 2012 when I ran into my good friend MIRO, and he took me to Wynwood. He opened my eyes to graffiti again and inspired me to pick up my brushes and spray cans. Worried about the past and not realizing that the statute of limitations for graffiti in New York was two years, I started painting under the alias GM64 instead of Child.
I will say openly that it felt so good to spray a wall again, but even more so to do it legally with an old time graffiti friend from the past. I mean the experience was so amazing that I opened up a gallery for graffiti in a 2500 sqft warehouse, which sadly failed. The business was a fun run, but it was poorly managed and I had to shut the doors on it. Unfortunately in the move and emotions, somewhere along the line, I regretfully lost touch with Miro..
Hey Miro, I miss you bro, get a hold of me.
Chasing the Art:
After the Gallery was shut down, I started collabing with other artists such as JC Bravo and Vago. In the process, I was fortunate to be featured in a hardrock cafe event, and to do a small art piece in Miami with JC. Thereafter I launched a new business, and stepped away again from Graffiti until now.
Big Props:
Thanks to Ricky aka RS One, Teri aka Tee and members of the Drug Crew for reminding me who I once was and for reigniting that flame within me. I got my MOJO back and I am now doing canvases and local murals. Check out my blog for whats happening, new updates and new canvases I will be releasing. It is all a work of art, so stay tune and thank you for the support.
